A Journey Into My Latest Mystery

Do you love a good murder mystery?

If so, tell me something: What kind of mystery lover are you?

Do you prefer to hear the words spoken by someone else? Are you an audiophile who prefers to absorb your whodunnits via an Audible audiobook or by listening to a podcast?

Or are you a purist who prefers to read your mysteries by holding a book or reading on a screen? You might be the type of person who likes to feel each word with your eyes. You want to ride the emotional roller coaster on your terms, without being influenced by someone else’s voice.

What if I told you there was a whodunnit perfect for both types of mystery lovers?

Whether you’re an audiophile or reader purist, and you love mysteries, M2D4 is perfect for you!

Alluring Mysteries to Appease Your Ears & Eyes

Introducing Mysteries to Die For (M2D4), the podcast and book series with a range of authors’ stories sure to leave you stumped.

Produced by TG Wolff and her son Jack, Mysteries to Die For is a unique anthology series that blends storytelling with atmospheric music. Despite being an engineer by day, TG finds the time (and energy!) to gather talented writers, shape their stories, and bring them to life—one mystery at a time.

Creative Stories That Keep You Guessing in Podcast Form

The anthology is released initially story by story as a podcast. TG reads the story aloud while Jack plays music in the background. The contrast between TG’s voice and Jack’s tension-building music makes for a unique mystery experience.

Occasionally, TG and Jack will stop to discuss the story, clarify terms, or compare notes about clues and who they think is the real killer.

Many times, I’ve found myself nodding along, wanting to know the definition of something, and TG and Jack provided that meaning on the spot. The storytelling is fun, the banter adds spice, and every story chosen for the anthology is hard-hitting and difficult to predict.

After the story is over, Jack makes a guess as to whodunnit, and every season the pair keeps score. The question is: Will Jack win or will the writer be skilled enough to fool Jack with a well-placed red herring? You’ll have to listen to find out.

Read the Mysteries On Your Terms with the Published Book

Once all the stories are read, the published book is released to the public. Readers will notice a deliberation section before the final reveal in all of the published stories. This deliberation is read aloud on the podcast to give the reader a chance to guess the dastardly culprit. Now readers have the same chance, only you get to read the deliberation in your own words, and in your own voice.

The reason I mention Mysteries to Die For is because season eight is steadily rolling out, and my second story for the publication recently went live.

But wait, rewind. I guess I should mention my first story for M2D4, Right Hand Dripping Blood Red.

Season seven, released and published last year, was my first inclusion in the Mysteries to Die For series. That season was called Games People Play. Writers submitting stories for inclusion had to choose a certain game and form the mystery around that theme.

Of all the games I had to choose from, I chose Twister. I almost typed “the popular game Twister,” but I’m not sure many young people even know what that is.

If you’re Gen X or older, I’m sure you’ve heard of Twister. My favorite mention of the game is from the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, where they played Death at Twister in a multi-game series to get their lives back. Seeing death stretch his foot in front of Bill’s face before falling over never fails to make me laugh.

My story around this theme was called Right Hand Dripping Blood Red. An international Twister championship is being held at a fancy Illinois hotel. Tension among the competitors and high dollar stakes muddy the playing field, leading to a number of suspects when young contestants wind up dead. A pair of detectives must find this twisted killer before he or she gets away with murder.

The Derringer Award? Talk About a Twist!

Following the publication of season seven, TG Wolff reached out with amazing news. Of all the authors who submitted stories to Games People Play, only two were chosen for inclusion in the running for the 2025 Derringer Award.

I was one of those authors.

The Derringer Award is an annual award that recognizes excellence in mystery fiction. Presented by the Short Mystery Fiction Society, nominees are categorized by short fiction, novelettes, and anthologies, and the winners are chosen by volunteer judges.

Getting that email blew me away. It was my first contribution to the series, and out of all the authors, TG and Jack chose me and just one other for this out-of-this-world honor.

Sadly, last I checked, my Twister-themed story didn’t make it into the Derringer finals. I am still honored to have been a nominee.

Season Eight is Rolling Out: Safe Haven is Live!

Now, to the very reason I started writing in the first place. My latest story for M2D4, Safe Haven, has recently gone live.

Safe Haven is the story I submitted for season eight of M2D4 titled Anything but Murder. My challenge was to write a mystery where no one was overtly killed. It wasn’t an easy challenge, but I’m proud of how it came together—and I think you’ll enjoy the twist.

Safe Haven is named after the law that states mothers can drop their unwanted infants off at a local fire station, no questions asked. Here is a little rundown of what the story is about from the M2D4 website:

“Branch River Fire Fighter Barrett Turner was alone at the firehouse when an infant was abandoned in the Safe Haven box. New to the process, Barrett called the number posted on a flier for Child Protective Services. The woman who was dispatched, Tricia Vickers, took the baby and subsequently…tried to murder him! Now Barrett is working double time to keep little Davey safe and figure out why so many people have it out for the blue-eyed sweetie.”

Here’s what TG and Jack had to say about Safe Haven: “We love your storytelling. You’re always so unpredictable!”

Thank you, TG and Jack!

What do you think, listener and/or reader? Did this whodunnit keep you guessing till the end?
